scrappy postage stamp baby quilt

Image
A few weeks ago I saw some scrappy 9 patch blocks start to pop up on Instagram (check out #scrappypostagestampQAL).  Since I am always looking for a way to use up scraps, I thought I'd join in.  After I posted my first blocks a friend commented that she really liked them.  Since I know that this friend is expecting a baby girl (she already has 3 boys) I thought I'd make them into a baby quilt for her. I tried to stick with a little bit of a color scheme even though the quilt is scrappy and I used lots of pinks and peaches and corals with some purples and navies and blacks and greens.  Pretty much all the colors actually. But I think it turned out pretty fun. Since this is going to a baby who lives in a place with cold winters and she is going to be born in February, I backed the quilt with AMH flannel.  My favorite. The sashing is a Robert Kaufman white on white Spot On print and it so wonderful and soft and the binding is a Cotton + Steel basic.   Finished...

Winged Pillow Sham

Image
Back when I was working on this Winged twin quilt , the commissioner of the quilt asked if I could also make a matching pillow sham.  Now to be honest I have made throw pillows and pillow cases, but I have never actually made a pillow sham.  But of course there are lots of tutorials available online (I used this one ) so I said yes. And I don't think this will be the last one I make.  It was pretty easy and quick to put together.  The only change that I made was that I pieced and quilted the front of the sham. It was also great because I was able to use a lot of the scraps leftover from the quilt top.  I only had to order a little extra of the quilt backing for the back of the pillow sham. Now I think I need to make one of these for each of my kids' beds :)

Quilts for Sale

Image
A few days ago the Christmas gifts for my kids started arriving in the mail (thank you Amazon!) and I went to hide them in my guest room only to realize that all of hiding places are now full of quilts. So as much as I hate to part with quilts, even if I don't need them, I am going to try to sell a few.  Don't worry, there are still plenty of quilts to keep us warm in this frigid San Diego winter, ha ha.  Oh, and of course none of these have been used. All but one of these (which needs better photos and will be up tomorrow) are posted in my Etsy shop for (what I think) are very reasonable prices.  Please let me know if you have any questions!

Winged Twin Quilt

Image
A few weeks ago I got an email asking if I could make a twin size quilt similar to my Winged Baby Quilt .  I'm not sure if it was the best idea to take on a large commission project when I was early in the first trimester and needing 14 hours of sleep a day, but I really love working with these fabrics and colors and wanted to make another project with them.  Plus it gave me something with a deadline and helped me keep going. I kept the color palate pretty similar, minus the purple, and added in some more gray.  The quilt is for a little girl's bed and I like how the colors are sweet and just a little spunky. Notice the lush green grass in the background, it actually rained! The back of the quilt is a Winged print and I love how pretty and creamy it is.   Even though I'm feeling quite a bit less tired now, trying to baste a quilt this large was quite the task so I think I will be sticking to smaller project until this baby shows up. I still need to make a matching pi...
