Mingled Quilt

Image
A few months ago I designed a quilt using Tanya Whelan's new Charlotte collection.  The pattern is called Mingled . Her fabrics are beautiful, but a little out of my comfort zone which was actually one of my favorite things about working with them.  I would really like to try this design using some bright colors to see how it turns out. The pattern is available (for free!) on Freespirit's website.

August Culcita Box Unboxing - Lagoon

Image
The August Culcita Box contained Rashida Coleman Hale's new collection, Lagoon. I had several things-that-had-to-get-done last week and was waiting to open the box until I finished them up.  It was a great incentive to finish up some things around the house. I was not disappointed, the colors are gorgeous! Those blues and teals are really lovely and there is a little lemur peeking through the pink/purple fabric.   I have the fabric already cut and ready to be sewn up, now I just need to decide if I want to splurge on some of this for the backing fabric. Cut Loose Quilt

Image
If you follow me on Instagram, you might have seen the Cut Loose Quilt that I made for Denyse Schmidt's quilt market booth.  The free pattern is finally available! The quilt that I made for the booth was a miniaturized version of the pattern (I think around 45" x 60") and the pattern makes a 68" x 85" quilt.  It uses Denyse's beautiful Washington Depot collection. It is now available (for free!) on Freespirit's website.  I have designed a couple quilts for them over the past few months and haven't taken the time to share them here, so I will be posting those over the next few weeks.

Fussy Cut Sampler QAL - Blocks 45-48

Image
This is the final chapter in the Fussy Cut Sampler . Thanks for sticking with me as I have shared my blocks each week, it has been so much fun.  Now the problem is going to be choosing a sashing fabric, I have no idea what I'm going to do! Block 45.  I have a confession to make: this block is supposed to use freezer paper and I didn't use it.   Block 46. This was another hard one for me, I am not a fan of matching up repeats because I am not very good at it.   Block 47.  I didn't really follow the rules on this block either, I got carried away with picking fabrics and forgot that each of the shapes was supposed to contain a motif.   Block 48. This is the final block and creates a custom label. I didn't want to use my name and I didn't have many text fabric options in my, so I decided to go with a short phrase that I knew I would enjoy seeing on my quilt and happy fabrics to go along with it.  Check out everyone else's Chapter 12 blocks on Instagram wit...

Chroma Quilt

Image
The July  Culcita Box contained Alison Glass' beautiful Chroma collection. It is part of her Handcrafted line, which means that the fabrics were created by hand through a Batik process. It was beautiful to sew with and even more lovely to hand quilt. I hand quilted randomly spaced squares around the different shapes with perle cotton in a very light gray. The backing is another Alison Glass print and the binding is a purple solid.  Finished size: 40" x 50" Fabric: Chroma by Alison Glass from the June Culcita Box Batting: Quilter's Dream Orient Blend This quilt is now available in my shop   Previous  Culcita Box  Quilts: June Quilt May Quilt April Quilt March Quilt February Quilt January Quilt

Fussy Cut Sampler QAL - Blocks 41-44

Image
This week's Fussy Cut Sampler blocks focus on creating a narrative. Block 41. This block is about picking a theme.  I looked through my stash for a very long time with this one and decided to use some precious scraps of Heather Ross roses in combination with this rose background fabric. Block 42. When I saw the title of the chapter, I had a feeling this block was coming.  This block is supposed to use all prints from a single collection.  I rarely buy more than a couple of prints from any given collection so this one also took some searching.  Good thing I love Alexia Abegg's Printshop collection! Block 43.  I almost forgot to use these Heather Ross mice in the quilt, I'm glad I remembered! Block 44. This block is titled "you in a block." I decided the best way to approach this was to just use some of my all-time favorite fabrics and hope they look ok together.  I think it worked out pretty well! Field Study Charm Lap Quilt

Image
For the longest time I have had several charm packs from Anna Maria Horner's Field Study collection sitting on my shelf.  This is definitely my favorite of all of her collections and I was a little reluctant to use the fabric, but it wasn't doing me any good on the shelf. The feathers are my favorite, especially the orange ones.  I think one of the reasons why I love this collection is because it looks good together, but many of the prints are versatile and mix well with other collections. I had just enough fabric to make a lap sized quilt; this one finishes up a 54" x 65." The backing is another Field Study print and the binding is Kona Navy, sewn onto the back with Perle Cotton. For the quilting I did a cross hatch since it is my favorite and I think it makes the quilt so nice and drapey.  This quilt is now available in my shop .  SOLD Finished size: 54" x 65" Fabric: Field Study by Anna Maria Horner Batting: Quilter's Dream Cotton Select

Fussy Cut Sampler QAL - Blocks 37-40

Image
This chapter in the Fussy Cut Sampler is titled "Remixed Blocks." It combines the methods in the book that have been used so far. Block 37. I didn't really follow the directions for this block; it is supposed to create a block without a clear up or down, but I decided to use this fabric instead.  Block 38. I love those cats. Block 39.  Block 40. This block imitates stripes.  Elisabeth's block in the book uses this same Cotton + Steel print, though she used orange and I used purple, but I liked the way it looked so I used it too.  When I got to this block I was very glad I hadn't already used up these bunnies!
