Travellin' Pic-Stitch Bloghop
When I decided to participate in this bloghop, I was at a little bit of a loss about a photo to use for inspiration. It would have been great to use a photo from our recent trip to Hawaii, but pretty much all of the photos are of my kids. Then I realized that I do live in a fun place so I might as well take a photo of something that I encounter every day.
I live in Los Angeles about a mile west of Beverly Hills. It is an amazing place to live with lots of things to do, the occasional celebrity siting, and beautiful weather. It is not, however, a place with much color. There is a lot of gray (concrete) and brown (smog). So I was delighted to be out for a walk one day when I looked down Santa Monica Blvd. and notice that there is a little color there. I plugged my photo into the color pallette builder and got a pretty result.
There is definitely a lot of concrete here, but there is a blue sidewalk and a painted curb and palm trees and taxis. It represents what I see every day and I love it.
I pulled some fabrics and decided to make a rose star. It was so nice to have a little project to work on in the evenings that didn't require me to sit at my machine. I would love to make a quilt of these and I think I might start it up as a long term project.
This rose star is currently becoming part of a giant scrap bucket that I am making to go next to my machine. I didn't quite get the lining in last night, so here it is as of this morning:
