WIP Wednesday
Things have been a little slow here sewing-wise. I have been trying to enjoy summer and get a little more balance in my life (i.e. going to bed before 1am and actually keeping my kitchen clean). But let's keep it real, this is what my kitchen table has looked like for the past week. My husband is so wonderfully tolerant of my sewing mess :)
I did get some time to work on my postage stamp quilt this week. It is going to be big so this one may not be finished for a while, but cutting these squares made a nice dent in my scrap bin.
This quilt has been a therapeutic process as I have been having some life stress over the past few weeks. I will share more about this soon I hope. In the meantime I have added this wallpaper to my phone:
And when I see this it really makes me rethink whether I actually need to be spending that time on my phone. Probably not. I love my iPhone, but it can't take over my life.
I have no real to do list right now, other than a Moda Bake Shop project that I need to get started on. I am looking forward to sharing that with you in a few weeks :)

I really love your postage stamp quilt. Are you making it dark/light, dark/light? It looks like it, but with just a few exceptions maybe. I have always really wanted to make one.
ReplyDeleteI see someone else picked up Cloud9 from JoAnn :)
ReplyDeleteI applaud you for your resolve to be more balanced. It can certainly be a struggle!

Your postage stamp blocks are so fun and cheery! As is that wallpaper -- I need to do something like that!
ReplyDeleteI'm in the process of quilting my postage stamp quilt and it's definitely therapeutic. There is just something about the monotony and rhythm of a simple patchwork that brings calm :)
ReplyDeleteOhhhh I like the alternating values on your PS blocks -- great idea. Mine are completely random! Good luck destressing! Lots of deep breaths and yogi calm tea always help me out :)
ReplyDeleteI have a kitchen table that looks just like that! Love your postage stamp colours, hope you're having fun with it :)
ReplyDeleteThose postage stamp blocks are so sweet and cheery! I love the mix of colors you're using. I've been having mixed feelings about my iPhone lately too. I actually thought about removing the data plan and just doing web stuff over wifi, but it turns out this is impossible according to AT&T. Doh!
ReplyDeleteLovely blocks Erica, and good reminder too. Choose happy! I like that. Hope you're okay.
ReplyDeleteLovely blocks so far. Keep on pushing through and that quilt will be done before you know it! Hope you have a wonderful week and are finding more ways to relieve some of your stress.
ReplyDeleteHaha, your kitchen table looks just like mine (mine is possibly messier!). Your postage stamp quilt is looking good - can't wait to see how it turns out. I keep meaning to cut my scraps into uniform size squares as I go - for a postage stamp quilt or a scrap vomit quilt.
ReplyDeletelove your blocks, Erica. Hope things calm down for you soon and you'll be able to get some balance back. I always struggle with balancing working, family, and my quilting.
ReplyDeleteI just read a blog entry by a friend who said, "Life is truly a gift with no guarantee. The only thing we should count on is being surprised." I like your "choose happy" attitude. That's always a good way to deal with those surprises life throws at us. Somehow, your wonderful, upbeat personality shines through your stresses. Hang in there--and keep beautifying the world with your quilts!
ReplyDeletethe first half of your post could have been written by me (except my husband may be slightly less tolerant). be gentle on yourself
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely quilt that is going to be ...
ReplyDeleteIt is so hard to keep a sewing area straight, there is always something to be worked on. Sorry to hear that you have been through so much life stress. I find that doing some of the things you love always helps. I really like how the squares came out.
