I'm back!

Sorry for the extended absence.  We finally moved into our house in San Diego (which I am totally in love with) and then 3 days later my husband's brother and his family came to stay with us.  Right after that we had a week long family reunion so it has been pretty crazy.

My sewing machine is STILL IN THE SHOP.  I am so sad.  I am not going to name names, but I took it to a local shop here in San Diego that does routine maintenance.  They told me it would be 2 weeks and it has been 4.  If I don't have it back on Monday I may camp out in their shop until give it to me.  I called them this morning and the woman I talked to said they currently have a 3 week wait.  Then when she checked on my machine she said they haven't even looked at it yet!

In my machine's absence I have been organizing my sewing room (yes, I have one!) and I am not even close to being done.  Once I have it cleaned up and organized I will share some photos.

My daughter started kindergarten 2 weeks ago and, while she loves her teacher and seems to enjoy going to school, she has had a little trouble making some new friends.  There is a girl in her class that she is trying to become friends with so today we made them some no-sew friendship bracelets.  I used this tutorial, but instead of using 3 strips of fabric I used ribbon for the longer piece.
I am looking forward to getting back to work on some projects and back to blogging.

  1. Due to experience: I would go to the repair shop and ask to see your machine. If they say it is on their workbench, say that is okay, I just want to see it. Then take a picture of it with your phone.

Not all "repair shops" are created equal. Good luck.

  2. Glad you love your new home!
Wow, I can't believe your machine is still in the shop! I took mine in for a cleaning/tune-up (there wasn't anything wrong with it) and they told me it would be 4 days but they had it ready for me after after 2. Hope you get it sorted out soon!

  3. Oh dear that is a long time! You didn't finish the sentence "I call them and..." and?! What did they say? We need to know these things ;-) Can't believe you had house guests after 3 days of being in a new house! That must have been a crazy 3 days of try to unpack and prepare! Those friendship bracelets are very cute! I would have loved one when I was a kid :-)

  4. My friend Elizabeth takes her machines (she has several) to a guy in San Bernardino that she says is fabulous. He has a couple of day turnaround. It might be worth a trip to come visit the Cannons and drop off your machine...

  5. Is it possible they are waiting for a back ordered part? Four weeks is waaaay too long. Ask for it back if they give you the run around. So glad to hear that you are loving your new home!

  7. Glad you're back and that you're loving your new house! Boo hiss on the sewing machine front though. I think I would ask for it back and take it somewhere else at this point. And when I had the machine back in my possession I might give the shop some honest feedback on their customer service... Good luck!

  8. Love the bracelets! I would ask for your machine back. My shop told me 4 days for a tune up and it was done in 2. Go get your property back.

  9. I have one you can borrow--it's not fancy, but if you get desperate. I just bought it this weekend and it does zig zag and straight stitch, just like a Featherweight, only it ways about a hundred tons. Just kidding. Not that much.

Congrats on your new house and I want to see photos when you get your room all organized!
