Verdant - A Finished Quilt
When I first saw Leah Duncan's collection Meadow I really had to have some. Each print is really beautiful and unique. And the colors are just amazing. I bought a fat quarter bundle of the Picnic by the Hills colorway, but I wanted to make a decently sized lap quilt so I added some coordinating prints and solids.
I had a really difficult time deciding what to do with the fabrics but I have been wanting to try diamonds so I gave them a go.
My husband was kind enough to help me take a photo in the back yard. It's a good thing you can't see his face because he wasn't smiling, ha ha. We are continuing to experience very hot, strong Santa Ana winds and spending outside is not very pleasant.

For the backing I used my favorite Meadow print; normally I'm not a huge fan of green but the greens in this collection are gorgeous. The binding is an Art Gallery solid, I think it's called Emerald.
I quilted on the side of each seam and then down the center of the diagonals. The combination of the soft Art Gallery fabrics with the crosshatched quilting makes this quilt incredibly soft.
The finished size of the quilt is 65" x 75" which is pretty much my favorite size for a lap quilt. While I didn't have a plan for this quilt when I started it, I think it will be making its home in my living room.

Erica, this quilt is absolutely gorgeous! Did you just cut diamonds to make it or did I miss something in your blog about the pattern? I may have been only focusing on the pictures!!!! Hubby may not have been smiling but I surely am!!
ReplyDeleteTurned out lovely! Those diamonds are just big enough to really show off that fabric!

ReplyDeleteWow this is amazing. I have not seen a diamonds quilt yet that I have liked and this is just amazing! I think the colors and size of the diamonds are just perfection and I love the crosshatch quilting. It really adds to the beauty of the fabric instead of distracting from it. Well done and way to go! Maybe I will try to tackle diamonds sometime soon :)

ReplyDeleteYour quilt is really lovely. Great colors and fabrics! It appears that your diamonds worked out well. Do you have a secret to keeping your bias edges from stretching? I always spray starch the heck out of my fabrics before cutting when I'm cutting on the bias, but I'm always looking for other ways that work. Starching seems to take so long even though it is well worth the extra time.
ReplyDeleteThis quilt us beautiful. Love the colors and would like the quilt pattern. Can you share that with us?
