Fabric Sale and a Giveaway

Image
I am excited to share a great sale and giveaway from my sponsor FabricCadabra . All sale items are 25% off , and the sale section is full of pretty fabrics.  It includes a couple of my absolute favorite prints right now: this Priory Square print and this Glimma print  and lots of other gorgeous fabrics.   Also, FabricCadabra is offering a fat quarter bundle Amy Butler's new fabric line Violette in the Flourish colorway.   To enter the giveaway, just leave a comment on this post.  You can just say hi or, if you are feeling really helpful, I would love a baby name suggestion because we are a little clueless what we are going to name this baby boy in a few short weeks! If you would like a second entry, follow  FabricCadabra on Facebook  and leave me a second comment letting me know.   And be sure to check out giveaways at FabricCadabra's other sponsors: Modern Handcraft and SewTakeAHike .   The giveaway will remain open until Friday May ...

Skopelos Blog Tour

Image
Today is my stop on the Skopelos blog tour.  Working with Katarina Roccella's fabric is dreamy and Skopelos is no exception; the colors are rich and gorgeous.  I used a few of the prints from the fabric line mixed in with Pure Elements solids in Nocturnal, Raspberry Rose, and Grapefruit. I used a curved template that I drafted in EQ7 for the quilt.  My computer is having trouble printing a PDF of the template, but if I can get it to work and there is interest, I will post a download of the template later this week along with a quick tutorial. There are so many gorgeous prints in this collection and one of my favorites is on the back.  I would have loved to use more of the collection but it was fun to be able to highlight my favorites.   Finished size: 39" x 49" This quilt is now listed in my shop .   Be sure to check out the other stops on the Skopelos Blog Tour: 1. LYNNE GOLDSWORTHY - April 20th 2. ALLEGORY LANHAM – April 21st 3. ERICA TOOLE - April 22n...

For the Boys Quilt Top

Image
A couple weeks ago I received an order from Lark Cottons that was just what I needed to get started on a new project.  I had unintentionally ordered coordinating fabrics. I ended up adding and subtracting a couple prints, but it seemed like these fabrics plus . . . this book were a great combination.  I knew it wouldn't be long until I needed to make something from Jen Kingwell's book, and this is one of the few quilting books where I think I could eventually make all of the projects.  It is amazing. I decided to start with a pattern called For the Boys (which makes me get this song stuck in my head every time I think of it). I made mine a little smaller than the pattern and left off the outer borders.  I don't normally share quilt tops, but I am planning on hand quilting this one for the baby and it might be a while before it's finished.  This is a great pattern, especially for a baby boy quilt, and one I could definitely see myself using in the future. Sending a quilt to be quilted: a follow up

Image
I have been meaning to post an update to my previous post for the past few weeks, but I have had a hard time working on this quilt.  But now that it is done I wanted to share a few follow up thoughts. Overall, I am happy with how the quilt turned out.  The quilting mostly looks pretty good and I love that the quilt is extra big so my husband and I aren't fighting over the blanket.  I do not love that I ended up having to trim 1/2" plus off of each side to get rid of the folded over fabric and that there are several places in the quilt where the quilting is not lined up.  Most of the other issues are less noticeable now that the quilt has been washed. After my previous post the quilter responded and and apologized and ended up refunding my money.  That is not why I made the post and I did not expect anything from her, but it was very kind of her.   I know that I am not the only person who has had issues with this quilter because two separate people contacte...

Virtual Baby Shower

Image
I am so overwhelmed right now.  My fellow members of the do. Good Stitches Wish Circle are amazing and talented and generous and threw me a virtual baby shower.  Today was the designated day to open the gifts.  My kids were just as excited as I was so I let them help me open everything. Before I get to the photos I just want to thank these ladies for all of their love and support.  I hope they know how much their thoughtfulness means to me!  I am far from being ready for this baby to be born and this made me feel so much more prepared. Caitlin made the cutest alligator (crocodile?).  My daughter has already tried to steal this for herself. Maggie made this adorable hat.  I am hopeless when it comes to yarn but Maggie is amazing! Steph made some really cute burp cloths, bibs, and a soft toy.  My kids wanted to know why I don't make cool stuff like this, ha ha.   Becky made this really cute diapers/wipes pouch.  She also included some di...

Reel Time Tablerunner

Image
Welcome to the third day of the Reel Time blog tour.  This collection is from Zen Chic and it is wonderfully reminiscent of Comma, which is my favorite Zen Chic line.  These are a few of my favorite prints. I decided to make a table runner using a little of most of the prints in the collection.  The truth is that I couldn't pick favorites and wanted to use everything. The colors of the prints really inspired me; I love how that within each color, the prints are similarly colored, but there is enough of a difference in value to give the finished project some dimension.   I am looking forward to picking up yardage, especially of the low volume prints.  Make sure to follow along with the blog tour to see lots of other projects featuring Reel Time. 11. Prepping for Baby (and a shop update)

Image
I have been somewhat limited as far as what I can do to prepare for this baby.  We have about 5-ish weeks left and have been in the middle of a major bathroom remodel for the past month. Earlier this year we discovered that there was severe water damage (and mold) in the wall behind our shower.  And then we found out that before we moved in, there had been mice living under the tub and the droppings were still there.  Gross, gross, gross.  Our master bathroom was completely ripped out and the other bathrooms have been without sinks, counters, or mirrors.  Everything has been displaced.  But the remodel is finally done and I can finally start putting things away. Fabrics are all flannel.  From left to right: Cloud 9 Fanfare, Cloud 9 from Joann's, Sarah Jane's Children at Play, and another Cloud 9 from Joann's.   While I have been waiting for the bathroom to get finished up I cut a very large stack of burp cloths from some small-ish flannel scraps I...

September (!) do. Good Stitches Quilt

Image
I have been continuing my do. Good Stitches catchup and was able to put together some blocks that have been sitting on my shelf since September.  I do not like to let things sit around that long, but I kept forgetting about them until I was in the middle of a new project and they just didn't get done. I bumped this quilt to the top of my list last week and made 1 last block and put everything together.  We made these blocks using my tutorial which makes a block that looks like a string block without the paper piecing.  I am so over paper piecing right now.   The back of the quilt is some leftover Britten Nummer fabric from Ikea that was leftover from another project. This quilt will be donated to Project Linus. And just in time because I have a stack of February blocks waiting to be put together.

do. Good Stitches Blocks Catchup

Image
I have gotten shamefully behind on my do. Good Stitches duties, so I am playing catchup. First I put together our February blocks. Since it was my turn as quilter last month and I knew it would be a little while until I could put the quilt together, I put these off. I asked everyone to make 2 of these double pinwheel blocks in warm pinks, oranges, peaches, and yellows where the larger pinwheel was a darker shade and the smaller pinwheel was a lighter shade of the same color. I also needed to hurry and get my March blocks finished so I could get them in the mail.  Kirsten requested that we each make 2 of Allison's Heart Blocks , one in blue and one in pink so that she can put 2 quilts together. Our circle (the Wish Circle) has put together some gorgeous quilts lately.  I can't remember which of the quilts I have shared, so I will just show you a couple of recent finishes. Caitlin's Geese in the Round quilt.  You might have seen this on display at QuiltCon and it's am...
