AGF Stitched - Fractal Quilt with Free Pattern

The Fat Quarter Shop and Art Gallery Fabrics have teamed up again to create a free pattern.  Let me introduce you to my version of The Fractal Quilt using Happy Home Fabrics by Caroline Hulse.

One of the best things about this project is that it uses y-seams and there is a video tutorial with instructions on how to construct the quilt.  This is a great project for anyone who is wanting to try y-seams for the first time, they really are not that scary!

The only change I made to the pattern was to alternate Fabric D and Fabric H (the yellow and green) instead of having them always in the same location.  I just felt like this helped balance out my fabrics and didn't require any additional fabric yardage.  

The Happy Home fabrics are gorgeous and include several great blenders.  I saved my absolute favorite print for the binding.

    I've been thinking about making this quilt ever since I saw the tutorial and so now I am going through the hop and admiring everyone's quilts and looking at the different colorways. This looks like a quilt that looks fabulous no matter what fabric you use. Yours is great too. I am glad I saw it, because I really like the way you changed it up.

What Shade Are You? Blog Hop & Giveaway

A few weeks ago RJR Fabrics contacted me to see if I was interested with working on a project using their solids.  I checked out their colors and was pretty smitten so I said yes. And they exceeded my expectations.  I mixed them in with some of the prints from Rashida Coleman Hale's new Mochi collection .  Since Cotton + Steel is actually a division of RJR fabrics, the RJR solids coordinate perfectly with the collections. The RJR Cotton Supreme Solids have a great selection of pinks (I think good pinks are the hardest to find) and my favorite is actually the neutral-y brown Driftwood color that I used for the binding.  It might not be cool to love brown, but I do, and Driftwood (color 297) will be filling a void in my stash.   The quilt looks more complicated than it actually is: each of the diamonds is made up of 2 triangles (so there are no y-seams) and I cut the fabric with my  favorite triangle ruler .      I didn't want the quilting to be too dense since the fabrics are i
