Some sewing, some thoughts
Yes, I am still here! I have been sewing a little here and there - mostly projects that I have been committed to finish for a while and that I can share soon, but not yet.
I have also been making bee blocks. These are my do. Good Stitches blocks for Steph. How cute are these little houses?
I have also been making bee blocks. These are my do. Good Stitches blocks for Steph. How cute are these little houses?
I have also been spending lots of time with my family. My husband's office gave him 8 weeks of paid paternity leave which has been amazing.
And having this time has given me a lot to think about regarding how I have been spending my time and how I would like to be spending my time. This doesn't really have anything to do with quilting because I love the time that I am able to spend sewing and I consider it important for my sanity, but there are lots of things in my life that are not important.
But the main thing that does need to go: social media. Not completely, because I like sharing and seeing what other people share, but it needs to move way down the priority list. I got rid of my Facebook account about a year ago when I realized that it was not only wasting my time, but it was making me more stressed and less happy. It felt like it was tying me down. And now Instagram, blogs, and keeping up with news sites is doing something similar. More than anything I just need to put my phone down and be more present in my life.
So I don't think much will change around here. I still want to make things and I still want to share them, but I want to try to respect your time more and make my blog a more worthwhile and encouraging place to be. It might take me a while to get there, but that is the direction I am hoping to go. So if there is something that you would like to see in this space, please let me know. Thank you so much for your support, I couldn't do it without you!
I wholeheartedly agree with your choice! I'm feeling the same way. Social media is SO addicting and steals time from family. Family first!
ReplyDeleteSuch a cute baby (and blocks!) I've only just joined Facebook recently as a new blogger after years of resistance. Already I find it distracts me from my precious family and sewing time. How do people fit in Instagram as well?!
ReplyDeleteSo wonderful your husband get a maturity leave and that little one is darling!
ReplyDeleteI'm proud of you for stepping back and putting your family first. I know that feeling. Love your little ones - too precious. Thank you for the house blocks - love them!
ReplyDeleteI turned off Pinterest and Twitter last month and it was a good choice. I do love Instagram but I can do without Facebook too
ReplyDeleteSelfishly I say "No! No!" As a mother I say "You go, girl!" This will just motivate me to see you in PERSON rather than virtually.
ReplyDeleteCute blocks and cute baby! Your blog is one of my favorites and I'm glad you'll still be posting and sharing. Social media is a time-robber alright and I'd rather be sewing. I admire the meaningful direction you're going in!
ReplyDeleteI totally agree! Social media sucks up so much time. I'll miss you but you've made the right decision.
ReplyDeleteI am not into the social media but do follow several blogs. I agree, I like the worth wild blog post more then the "Its been a few days I need to post something" post. I look around the world and see people looking at their phone instead of experiencing life and I feel sorry for them. They are missing so much. Can't wait to see what you make next and inspire me!
ReplyDeleteyour kids are soooo cute ! I agree about the social media. I decided not to get a smart phone - I find it really irritating when I get together with friends and they're always looking at their phones - maybe I should go home and e-mail them ;) I immediately thought Facebook was a time hole and don't go there often but I do love reading blogs - yours is a fav. I completely understand if you won't be posting as often but I hope you don't disappear entirely. When I had my third baby I had to make similar choices.
ReplyDeleteI have noticed a lot of mums out and about with their small children ......with their phones glued to their hands. I do wonder about what sort of quality time they are spending with their families! So, I can totally understand about you making this decision. I'm sure you will feel better for it in the end. We should all try it!
ReplyDeleteYou always share so many inspirational quilts and fun ways to showcase fabrics - Thank You!! I have learned so much from you (I can sew curves now, yeah) and have been able to share my what i learned in the form of gifts for family & friends, I THANK YOU for that too. Totally respect the decision to prioritize your life and just wanted you to know how wonderful this blog has been for me. Keep it coming but certainly at your own pace :)
ReplyDeleteAs a grandmother of four, I applaud your decision. There is nothing more important that time invested in your children. They do grow so fast (I know it sounds cliche, but it is so true!)...your talent isn't going anywhere and you will never regret making this decision. Before you know it, your adorable children will be in school and you will have more "me" time!

Mineral water is water from a mineral spring that contains various minerals, such as salts and sulfur compounds. Mineral water may be effervescent (i.e., “sparkling”) due to contained gases.
Traditionally mineral waters were used or consumed at their spring sources, often referred to as “taking the waters” or “taking the cure.” In areas such as spas, baths, or wells, cities developed. The term “spa” was used for a place where the water was consumed and bathed in; “bath” where the water was used primarily for bathing, therapeutics, or recreation; and “well” where the water was to be consumed.

Today it is far more common for mineral water to be bottled at the source for distributed consumption. Travelling to the mineral water site for direct access to the water is rare, and in many cases not possible (because of exclusive commercial ownership rights). There are more than 3,000 brands of mineral water commercially available worldwide.
