yes, I'm still alive

And in San Diego!  My husband's new job is now officially official and he started today.  We are buying a house (yay!) that will have a sewing room (yay again!) but until we can close on the house, we are spending some quality family time together in a 400-ish square foot hotel room.  We will close on the house (hopefully) next week. For now we are just spending some time exploring the city.  I really love San Diego and it is so nice to not constantly have to worry about traffic and parking.  We miss LA though.  Especially our friends. I also miss my sewing machine which is currently being serviced.  I figured that it might as well get a checkup since I can't use it right now. Instead I am working on some hand quilting, catching up on Netflix, and making my kids pose for photos (sorry for the non-quilting related photos, but aren't they cute?).  I have fallen hopelessly behind on blog reading and comment replying.  Hopefully I will be back soon!

cha-cha-cha-changes

I was just 22 years old when we moved to Los Angeles for my husband to attend law school at UCLA.  Look at those kids!  Both of our children were born here and we have really loved calling LA our home.  But it is time to move on to new adventures.   I know that's not a huge change geographically, but it's a pretty big change for us.  I haven't given away too many details because we were (and still are) waiting for some details to be ironed out before the job is official.  There is a chance things could all fall apart, but we are making a leap of faith and just hoping that it all works out.  If for some reason the details cannot be taken care of, um, I don't know what we will do, but we both feel like our time in LA is over. So now I do need some advice.  I started quilting in our current apartment and have never had to move my supplies.  I am going to keep my most beloved sewing machine with me so that I can get it cleaned (and make sure it doesn't melt or get destr

September Blocks

Image
With all of the packing that has been going on over here I was happy to get my September blocks finished up. The September Lucky Star  block was pretty quick and easy this month.  Some of my fabric is already packed up so I was limited to my scraps.  Luckily the 6.5" blocks just take a tiny bit of each fabric.   And here are my blocks so far.  I am determined to finish all of the blocks so it was important to me not to get behind. This is the last month I will be taking photos of my Lucky Stars blocks on this fence :( For the Wish Circle's blocks this month Steph asked for Scrappy String HSTs .  She only asked us to make 2, but the blocks aren't very big (8.5" finished) and it wasn't much extra work to make 4 blocks so I made extra.   And my sewing machine is now packed up.  I have a couple more posts to make this week, but otherwise things might be a little quiet around here until October.

Striped Chevron Quilt

Image
If you would like to make a larger version of this quilt, or if you are looking for more detailed instructions that include fabric requirements, the pattern is now available on  Craftsy  and  Etsy .   I spent a little time packing  quilting this weekend and finished up this baby quilt.  It felt good to do some sewing. This went together incredibly fast, even for a baby quilt, partly because I used a lot of jelly roll strips.  The fabrics are mostly Bonnie and Camille's Scrumptious with a few other fabrics mixed in.  The solid is from a Moda Bella white jelly roll.   I backed it with the houndstooth print from Bonnie and Camille's Vintage Modern and it is bound with another Vintage Modern print. You can find my Striped Chevron Tutorial here .  I am listing the finished quilt for sale here in my Etsy shop , but if it doesn't sell I will have to take it down at the end of the week since I am moving.   Sold! Finished quilt size: 37"x40"
