Flower Power Strip Quilt

Image
I have had this beautiful quilt pinned on Pinterest for a long time and decided that it would be perfect for my next quilt.  Mine is a little less subdued, but I wanted to use prints and I wanted to use pink and orange so I went a little bit of a different direction. It ended up a little crazy, but it was a fun way to use up some yardage and showcase some prints.   I kept the quilting simple and did two straight lines on each side of the long seams.  It isn't fancy, but it leaves the quilt feeling soft and snuggly.   Of course after going to the trouble of going somewhere to take photos of the quilt, I forgot to take a photo of the backing and this quilt is already in the mail on its way to a friend.  The only photo I have is a phone photo I took while quilting.  I used this Cotton + Steel Melody Miller print.  It is so adorable! If you are interested in making a similar quilt, it is easy to plan out with a piece of graph paper.  I cut each strip 2.5" wide and then subcut int

Culcita Box Unboxing

Image
A few weeks ago I was contacted by the sweet people at Culcita Box to see if I was interested in reviewing their new fabric subscription box. Generally I am not a fan of subscription boxes because space in my home is limited and I want to have control over the things that I bring into it. I have reviewed one other fabric subscription box in the past and it was . . . not my favorite, but this one sounded more promising. They have two box options: a fabric bundle box (with 1/4 yard, 1/2 yard, or 1 yard cuts) or a project kit . I don't tend to use kits, so I chose to receive the fabric bundle. The adorable box arrived in a protective plastic bag (not pictured because it was completely soaked) which I really appreciated since it was pouring rain the day the box arrived. Inside the box the fabric was nicely wrapped in tissue paper and included a fortune cookie (which I immediately ate) and two labels.  I was excited to find a fabric collection that I really like and will actually use

Pretty Pink Baby Girl Quilt

Image
Around the time some of the craziness of moving was winding down we found out that my husband's cousin was adopting a baby girl which seemed like the perfect reason to try out my new sewing room. As you can see, the scenery is a little different than our house in San Diego. Taking photos is a little colder! I kept it simple with some soft pinks and low volumes fabrics.  The backing is a wonderfully soft Cotton + Steel double gauze with cute little cats on it.  To help the quilt feel nice and draped, I used Quilter's Dream Orient batting. Finished size: 36" x 42" Batting: Quilter's Dream Orient

See ya, 2016!

I know I'm not alone in this sentiment, but I am so glad to be done with 2016.  I have been planning to sit down and write a year-in-review post, but I just can't do it.  This past year has been a what-doesn't-kill-you-makes-you-stronger year, and while I may be stronger and it didn't kill me, I am tired and it's going to take me some time to recover. During 2016 I made some stuff, and if you want to look back through the archives you can find most of the quilts here . I also wrote some patterns and you can find them all here . We moved from San Diego to Oregon and in the near future I will hopefully be sharing some photos of my new sewing room and possibly a few of the other rooms that I have been working on. As always, I wouldn't be writing here if it wasn't for you. Thank you for your kind words and your support during the past year, you really buoyed me up during this crazy time. I hope you all had a happy holiday season and I hope that 2017 is a better
