Pretty Playtime Quilt Along - Pinwheel Block

Image
Welcome to Week 11 on the Pretty Playtime Quilt Along.  For the past few weeks, different bloggers (scroll down for the list) have been highlighting different blocks from this adorable book by Elea Lutz . When I was given a choice as to which block I wanted to make from the book, I knew I wanted to make a pinwheel block.  It is such a simple idea - just half square triangles - but it has such a fun effect. I made my block with a combination of Peppered Cottons and shot cotton solids from Kaffe Fasset. While I chose one of the more traditional blocks, there are cute fairies, a little house, strawberries, a tea pot and other unique blocks in the book. The book is available through the Fat Quarter Shop and contains 6 different patterns with lots of possibilities. Check out the other bloggers on the quilt along to see what they have been making: Week 2 - Erin from  Why Not Sew? Week 3 - Wynn from  Zakka Art Week 4 - Anorian from  Samelia's Mum Week 5 - Amy from  Diary of a Quilter W

Palisades Quilt - AGF Stitched

Image
Today I am excited to share another AGF Stitched pattern with you.  This is a collaboration between The Fat Quarter Shop and Art Gallery Fabrics to create a really great free pattern.  I love how many different directions this quilt could go - it is great for solids, larger scale prints, or anything in between. I decided to use mostly Katarina Roccella's Pandalicious collection for my quilt.  This collection uses some great blues and greens and bluish greens and has the most adorable panda print. I had to use the pandas for the center square.  And for the back. I am a big believer that quilts have a healing and comforting ability.  But I can't imagine many things more comforting than a quilt backed in adorable pandas. So. Many. Pandas.  I quilted it with an all over/organic cross hatch (my favorite). Like the previous AGF Stitched patterns, this one is free and there is a video tutorial.  So if you are a fairly new quilter and are a little unsure, Kimberly will walk you thro

Denyse Schmidt Quilt

A few weeks ago my grandparents moved into an assisted living facility.  My grandma has had dementia for a while and it was becoming increasingly difficult for my grandpa to take care of her. They live in a small town in East Texas near where I grew up, but where none of their children or grandchildren have lived for a long time.  Since I am not able to visit them right now, I decided I wanted to make them a quilt. I pinned this quilt a long time ago and have always wanted to make something similar and I was planning on using a bunch of Denyse Schmidt prints for my grandparent's quilt, so when I was browsing through my Pinterest board, Megan's quilt popped out at me.   Denyse is my favorite fabric designer.  Her prints are so versatile and look good together or mixed with other collections.   I quilted a line through every other diagonal row.  Since I don't know how the quilt will be laundered in their facility, I zig zag stitched the binding on to make sure it is secure.
