Fussy Cut Sampler QAL - Blocks 33-36

Image
This week, the blocks in the Fussy Cut Sampler focus on using a geometric print as a focal fabric. As fun as it is using cute fussy cut fabrics, I am running out!  So it was nice to have a week that focused on something a little different. Block 33.  I decided to go for a black and white color scheme on this one. Block 34.  This block caught my eye when I first opened the book and I have been looking forward to it.  It would be fun to make a whole quilt of these. Block 35.  More black and white with a little bit of blue. Block 36. After pulling out some Habitat scraps for block 34, I decided to use a little more.   Check out everyone else's Chapter 9 blocks on Instagram with hashtag #thefussycutsamplerqal.

Culcita Box Unboxing - July

Image
It's that time again. Getting in fabric in the mail never gets old, it's always exciting! This month's Culcita Box contained Alison Glass' new collection - Chroma.   It's so colorful! I am going to have to put a lot of thought into what to make with these, there is plenty of inspiration on Alison's website .  If you are interested in signing up for the monthly subscription service,  Culcita  offers really flexible options with different cuts of fabric and frequency of delivery. Check out my previous posts to see what they have sent so far this year.   June Quilt June Fabric May Quilt May Fabric April Quilt April Fabric March Quilt March Fabric February Quilt February Fabric January Quilt January Fabric

Fussy Cut Sampler QAL - Blocks 29-32

Image
Week 8 in the  Fussy Cut Sampler. Block 29.  I like this block, but I don't know how well it is going to fit with the rest of the quilt.  I might need to give it another try. Block 30.  That bear is so stinkin cute. Block 31. I've been waiting to use this mermaid on a block. Block 32.  I am super pleased with how this one turned out.  It would be fun to make an entire quilt based on these colors.  Check out everyone else's Chapter 8 blocks on Instagram with hashtag #thefussycutsamplerqal.

Meriwether Irish Chain Quilt

Image
After I received the June Culcita Box , I knew exactly what I wanted to make with the fabric.  Meriwether was designed by Amy Gibson and I happened to have pinned one of Amy's quilts a long time ago and thought it would be perfect for the fabric. The fabric is really bright and fun so I knew that I wanted to really show it off. I had 11 fat quarters and didn't have quite enough to make the quilt top so I added a blue solid. A couple days before I started quilting, I received Jacquie Gering's new book in the mail.  It's called Walk and it introduces new ways to quilt with your walking foot.   I am not a fan of free motion quilting so I was intrigued, but to be honest, I am terrified of changing up my straight line quilting habits.  I tried the "Orange Peel" quilting method.  It involved a lot of marking, but I am super pleased with the results.  I didn't take into account that my blocks are bigger than the ones she marked so mine looks a little different

Fussy Cut Sampler QAL - Blocks 25-28

Image
This week is Chapter 7 in the Fussy Cut Sampler .  This week uses "tossed prints" and it has been the hardest week for me so far.  I have a decent fabric stash so I thought I had a little bit of everything, but it turns out I don't have a lot of these types of prints. Block 25. I used a precious scrap of that Melody Miller floral for this block. Block 26. Block 27 - forcing directionality.  I  did enjoy putting this one together, this Cotton + Steel print has so many fun different details. Block 28 - this one was my least favorite block from my least favorite chapter.  It has you cut out a focal element and piece it into a less distracting fabric.  Check out everyone else's QAL blocks on Instagram with hashtag #thefussycutsamplerqal.

AGF Stitched - Symphony Quilt Pattern

Image
Today I get to share my version of the new AGF Stitched pattern - the Symphony Quilt .  This is a great pattern because it is quick to put together.  I added a few blocks to make my quilt queen sized and I was shocked how fast it came together! I was making this quilt with someone in particular in mind and knew that I wanted to use some greens and grays.  The prints are from a variety of Art Gallery Fabrics collections.  By making the quilt 4 blocks x 4 blocks, the quilt ends up perfectly queen sized - 96" x 96". I quilted mine with an organic crosshatch (meaning that the lines of quilting are randomly spaced and not perfectly straight).  This is one of my favorite ways to quilt because it doesn't require marking in advance, but it still gives the quilt a nice texture. The backing for the quilt is called Forest Floor and is from Bonnie Christine for Art Gallery and it is voile!  I was a little nervous about using voile for the back of a quilt this big because I tape my ba

Fussy Cut Sampler QAL - Blocks 21-24

Image
This week I made the blocks in chapter 6 of the Fussy Cut Sampler . Block 21 plays with scale - using progressively larger versions of a motif in the borders.  In the book, Nichole's block uses plusses and Elisabeth's uses dots so I thought, "I have a ton of fabric, surely I have three different sizes of gingham that work together." Block 22 focuses on the details in a fabric.  I used a Sarah Jane print that has a lot of really cute detail. Block 23.  I had a really hard time deciding on fabrics for this block. It is supposed to use complementary focal fabrics. While I was looking through my stash I thought, "Wouldn't it be funny if I used lions and tigers and bears," and then I started laughing hysterically because it was late at night.  I don't normally think of panda bears when I think of that phrase, but that is what I had in my stash. Block 24.  If you have this book, check out Nichole's version of this block, it is one of my favorites in t
