desert blooms medallion

Do you know Nancy ?  She is fantastic and she has a fantastic new book .  A few weeks ago Nancy allowed me to sew one of the quilts from her book as a little preview for all of you. Meet the Desert Blooms Medallion. I love that squash blossom block as the center square. Since the pattern is called the "Desert Blooms Medallion," I tried to stick with a desert-y color scheme which was quite uncomfortable.  But sometimes it is good to work with uncomfortable colors. The most uncomfortable part was the peach.  I made the peach flying geese and hung them in my sewing room for two weeks before I sewed them on.  I'm still not sure if they were the best choice but I grew to like them. I kept the quilting pretty simple with some crosshatching.  The lines are 3" apart.  Since there are a lot of small-ish pieces in the quilt, I wanted the quilting to keep it drape-y.   Do you want to see more patterns from Quilting From Every Angle ?  Check out Nancy's blog and the #quilt

Welded Quilt

This is the third AGF Stitched quilt; this collaboration between the Fat Quarter Shop and Art Gallery Fabrics brings you free patterns and video tutorials.  My version of the first two quilts in this series can be found here and here .   I have the pleasure of introducing you to another quilt in the AGF Series: the Welded Quilt .  This one is a great beginner-friendly pattern and it is quick! and big!  It's just a few inches short of twin sized. (Forgive the quilt hanging on the wall in my un-glamorous dining room.  My quilt photography assistant husband is working long hours and as nice as it was for my 7 year old to offer to help take photos, she just isn't tall enough.)   I have to be honest: when I was choosing fabrics for this quilt, my number one priority was to find a way to use that Hello Bear buck fabric.  It is amazing and the pattern had enough yardage that I could fussy cut bucks for the bucks in the center of the quilt.  This quilt is a great way to highlight

Peppered Cottons Plaid Quilt (and a giveaway)

Welcome to day 17 of the Jaftex 85th anniversary blog hop.  Jaftex makes beautiful Peppered Cottons which are a personal favorite of mine that I have used a little here and there and various projects (a few places here , for the binding here ) and I was interested in being able to make a project entirely with this beautiful fabric. While all of the colors are really lovely, I was particularly drawn to the more neutral tones and felt like they would make a great baby boy quilt.  This may have been on my mind because I have a 4 month old baby boy ;) The fabrics were wonderful to work with and the finished project is so buttery soft.  My favorite use for this fabric might be as the quilt binding. Jaftex has provided me with 20 FQs of Peppered Cottons to share with you.  To enter the giveaway, just leave a comment on this post.  I will choose a random winner on Sunday September 20th.   The giveaway is now closed. As part of their anniversary celebration, Jaftex is having a huge contest wh

A few days ago I received an e-vite to my sister-in-law's (my brother's wife) baby shower.  Oops!  I have been putting my plans to make them a quilt on the back burner as I worked on other projects and all of a sudden . . . it was baby shower time. Since I live in San Diego and my brother and his wife live in Utah, I don't see them very often and I don't feel very in touch with their style.  So I scoured their registry and her Pinterest boards and am hoping that this will work for them. This quilt uses Camille Roskelley's Flower Girl pattern.  The original pattern has 16" blocks which seemed a little overwhelming for a quilt this size, so I shrunk them down to an 8" block and added some little green squares in between. The backing is this gorgeous Carolyn Gavin print from her Petite Fleur Organic collection. I like how it is girly but it has some attitude. I feel like the quilt turned out with a Mary Engelbreit feel, which I love, and I hope she loves it

A few weeks ago I received an email from someone asking if I would be willing to remake this quilt as a gift for her friend.  I let her know that I don't remake quilts, especially since this was a quilt that I had sold and it is one of a kind, but I let her know that I would be willing to do something similar. And really I am very busy right now with other projects and should have turned this one down, but as soon as we started talking I got excited about the project.  I asked her what she liked about the quilt and she said that she liked the triangles and she liked the yellow. So I played around in EQ7 a little bit and came up with this.  She also wanted a quote embroidered onto the quilt (it says good times + crazy friends = amazing memories).   The colors for the quilt top were inspired by one of my favorite, favorite, favorite prints ever, which is from Lizzy House's Natural History collection (available here ).  It is AMAZING.  And there are so many different colors in s
