Scrappy Bonnie Lass Quilt

Image
A while back I picked up Jen Kingwell's Quilt Lovely book.  It is aptly named - it is lovely - and I have several quilts from the book on my to do list (I already made one ). The Bonnie Lass pattern grabbed my attention because it is scrappy and scraps are taking over my house.  This is a great scrap buster since it uses small pieces and uses fabrics with light and dark values, so it gobbles up a good variety of fabrics.  Of course my scrap bins are still overflowing, but it is amazing what you can make with little leftover pieces. There are a few places where my darker value fabrics probably could have been a little darker, but my main objective was using up my scraps so I didn't stress about it.  This pattern was a lot of fun (though not exactly quick) to put together and I think it would be fun to remake in different color scheme (maybe black and white?). The backing is a really lovely Cloud9 flannel that I have had in my stash for a while.  It is different from other flann

Woven Baby Quilt

Image
I have been a baby-quilt-making mood lately.  Maybe it is because my lots of my friends have had babies recently or because my sister is having twin girls this summer, but expect to see a few more in the next little while. The colors for the quilt were inspired by a DS Quilts plaid print that I had in my stash that I had planned to use as the backing, but then when it was time the baste to the quilt I realized that I was about 6" short.  Oops! So then I found this Loominous (which is a woven, yarn-dyed that you can find here and here ) fabric in my stash which I like better anyway.  It is so soft! I really like playing around with the woven look (see here , here , and here ).  This one just uses 2.5" colored squares and 4.5" background squares.   Finished size: 36" x 45" This quilt is now available in my Etsy shop .   And one photo of the babe just because it was on my memory card when I loaded up the quilt photos ;)

Octagon Shimmer Baby Quilt

Image
A few weeks ago I saw Jennifer Sampou's beautiful pattern  and immediately bought it.  I don't buy many patterns these days because I like the freedom of being able to do my own thing, but this pattern is so fun and after making a baby quilt version I am sure it is a pattern that I will be using again. It is basically a giant, scrappy spiderweb block and it was so fun to make.  Everything is better when it is bigger (can you tell I am from Texas?). The colors for the front were inspired by this Small World Corduroy print.  It is the second time I have used this print to back a baby quilt and I love it just as much the second time.  It is so much fun.  I used a binding that is a little wider than normal (I cut my strips 2.75" instead of 2.5") and I like how squishy and soft it is.   I quilted it with a crazy, random crosshatch.  Crosshatching is my favorite way to quilt because I love the texture and feel, but I have been having some difficulty with my shoulder which
